Case Study of Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of High-Rise Building after Taiwan 921 Chi-Chi Earthquake

Right after Wen-Chuan earthquake, numerous personnel are joined to relieve the victims of the disaster at present, and tremendous efforts and resources will be invested in reconstruction in the following years. This essay describes a successful repair case of a high-rise residence building assisted by“ 921 foundation ”after 921 earthquake. This example can be a reference case for the rebuild of the Wen-Chuan earthquake. In this case, the cause of damage is estimated from primeval documents and in-situ investigation, and structure reinforced design is also done to enhance entire seismic resistance ability of the structure. Estimation of the earthquake resistance ability and the structure design processto raise earthquake resistance ability of the building isintroduced in this article, and the improving measure and design deal with the improper construction and structure design of the original building is also described.
