Case Study of The Reconstruction Investigation and Design of Taipei Financial Building

After several decades of urban developing, Taipei has few spaces suitable for buildings now. There are low rise residence buildings everywhere in Taipei and these buildings become the first aim of reconstruction. Complicated property owners are the main obstacles for reconstruction in these areas, and geotechnical problems seldom become an issue. On the contrary, geotechnical problems are often the biggest issues for the reconstruction of high rise financial buildings with deep basements. How to remove the existing under ground structures and build the new one is always a big challenge. This paper introduces the investigation and design of the reconstruction of Taipei Financial Building, located at the busiest area in Taipei, which is a three floor basement building damaged by 921 earthquake.
